Are vitamin supplements good for you – it depends on the quality

Do vitamins help your body?

The answer is a simple Yes, vitamins and mineral supplements are good for you.

Vitamins and minerals are considered essential nutrients because as they work together, they perform necessary roles for your body.  They help with soreness, tiredness, they can help heal, and mostly they are essential for boosting your immune system to help fight off diseases, coughs, colds and other ailments.  They also convert food into energy and help with the repair of cellular damage.

So, do all vitamin and mineral supplements help your body?  – it does depend on the quality!! –  Don’t be fooled that they are all equal. Don’t be fooled that they all work and don’t be fooled that companies are honestly labelling the product true to each and every tablet in the bottle.

Some products even have inorganic ingredients such as sulphates, oxides, gluconates and fumarates which destroy any antioxidants that are in the product and the result can be crystallisation in the stomach which in turn can cause damage.

In my opinion, a lot of products include ingredients that should not be in health supplements, eg Centrum, who supply multivitamins and minerals they have wording such as ‘complete from AtoZinc’ and also add to their labels ‘contains colourings, Sulfite and tabletting aids‘ – what are these?

Let’s take a look

Sulfites prevent browning or discolouration in food like baked goods, condiments, potatoes and shrimp. The chemicals are particularly prevalent in dried fruit like apricots, to preserve the light colouring after drying. Winemakers (another subject) also use sulfites to maintain freshness and prevent oxidation.

Tableting aids – These excipients can include diluents, binders or granulating agents, glidants (flow aids) and lubricants to ensure efficient tabletting; disintegrants to promote tablet break-up in the digestive tract; sweeteners or flavours to enhance taste, and pigments to make the tablets visually attractive or aid in visual appearance.

Really!!  Should these ingredients be included in a ‘health’ product?

In my opinion, No! 

Well, it may not be something you are aware of but the majority of ‘off the shelf’ vitamin supplement products are made to food regulation standards and the manufacturer does not have to prove quality of their product. So what is on the label may not necessarily be in the bottle.

Study after study has proven that the market is full of products that do not work, that actually do nothing but waste your hard earned dollars and pass right on through, leaving you with expensive pee and possibly doing more harm than good.

There are some products that do not contain any of these sulphates, oxides, gluconates or fumarates and which are formulated by natural processes.

So, how do you know which ones to choose?

In my research and opinion good supplement products need to provide natural processes that work in conjunction with nature, as nature intended  and need to include the following ingredients:

  • Vitamin A.
  • B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12 and folate)
  • Vitamin C.
  • Vitamin D.
  • Vitamin E.
  • Vitamin K.

Due to the abundance of processed food these days that it is impossible for any good to be transferred to our tables as processing strips it out. It is also impossible for these freshly grown foods to obtain all the goodness from the soils they are grown in as so much of the soil has been farmed for hundreds of years and is now reaped of its nutrients.

So it is probable you are not receiving enough vitamins and minerals to receive optimal health benefits.

You need to be doing some due diligence and be searching for products that are manufactured with honest integrity to provide you with quality made vitamins and minerals that help boost your optimal health.

Optimal health is essential for athletes and the quality of the product being taken needs to be safe, without any fear of random drug testing showing a positive result. This is essential for top athletes who need to obtain the utmost top quality to ensure top performance.

Another issue you may want to consider is that supplementation if it is of really good quality will take effect in your system almost immediately. Within the first week, you should be feeling like the ‘spring’ in your step has returned and a rejuvenation has taken place.

Ah, yes, now that is what we are wanting from our good quality supplementation products.

Products we can trust, products made with integrity that truly are manufactured to help.
