Hi, as previously promised, we mentioned that this site would be introducing some healthy palate friendly versions of eating. Ones that you can devour when you want to give healthier options a try.
Well it may surprise you to hear, that since the beginning of time, man has been vegetarian, yes from way back we ate greens and other foliage, long before the eating of animals started happening.
The healthy smoothie to start the day
This is what is referred to as the ‘most important meal of the day’.
This will be a vegan smoothie, and again it may well surprise you as to the ingredients used.
5 Minute Vegan Breakfast Smoothie
1 cup Almond milk
1 ripe banana, sliced
1 cup frozen fruit medley (favourite: strawberry, mango, pineapple, papaya)
1-2 tablespoons chia seeds
1 teaspoon powdered ginger
Place all ingredients into a blender and mix until smooth. Pour into your favourite drinking vessel. Devour.
Now that was easy wasn’t it?
The healthy cooked breakfast option
A lot of people prefer to have a cooked breakfast and it could be as simple as oatmeal with some fruit.
However, for those of us who do like to make something that is perhaps more substantial than a smoothie, here are a couple of grand options that could, but need not be, left for the weekends.
Easy 2-egg Omelette
2 tbsp olive oil
1 big handful cherry tomatoes (fresh from your garden is perfect)
½ cup basil, fresh (dried is okay but amount will vary)
¼ cup favourite cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, remember to avoid rennet if you’re vegetarian)
salt and pepper to taste
Slice tomatoes thinly. Break eggs into bowl and beat, pour into oiled preheated pan (skillet is ideal if you have one), arrange tomatoes, add basil, cover with cheese. Cook for 3-4 minutes before turning into a nicely folded scrumptious serving. Continue to cook ensuring egg is completely cooked. Plate up, add your salt & pepper to taste. Devour.
A good healthy recipe – ‘heavier’ option
A lot of men, in particular bodybuilders, labourers etc prefer to have a heavier cooked breakfast and these can be done without too much effort, but will need a bit more time- preparation and cooking.
One favourite to be had is the ‘English breakfast’ with bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes & toast. (a vegan option would not include the bacon & sausages). This breakfast option can also be served with a side dish of baked bean. Without the bacon & sausages, unless they are specifically brought, can also be classed as gluten-free, ensuring the toast has not been made with gluten flour.
English Breakfast (non vegan)
rasher of bacon
2 or 3 breakfast sausages (pref fat-free)
1 cup of button mushrooms, sliced
1 or 2 eggs
1 large tomato, cut in half
1 or 2 pieces of toast (bread of your choice)
Salt & pepper to taste
Heat olive oil in skillet or pan on stove, add sausages, when half cooked add bacon, mushrooms & tomatoes. As these are almost cooked break egg/s into skillet and cook to desired consistency. (Eggs could also be scrambled if preferred)
Plate up food either with toast under, or as a side serving. Salt & pepper to taste. Devour.
